Panning for Gems – A Great Family Activity
Western North Carolina has long held an attraction for gem enthusiasts searching for beautiful stones, including quartz, rubies, sapphires and garnets. At the Deep Creek Tube Center Mining Company entire families can join the search. Our flumes are covered making gem mining an all-weather activity.

We have everything you need for an exciting day of mining. We get you set up at the flume with all you need to start finding gemstones. It's as easy as 1-2-3.
1 – In the campground store, you can purchase different size bags of mine dirt enriched with gemstones from around the world.
2 – Place part of the mine dirt in the screen-bottom box.
3 – Dip the box in the sluice and watch the gems appear as the dirt washes away
Our flume is partly covered for those that want to stay in the shade.
